A three-bedroom rental in Clearfield or Roy generally sits inside a mid-grade enlisted BAH. Neighborhoods Military Families Choose Near Hill AFB

Almost every Hill family sorts themselves by gate. Because the base has entrances on three sides, your commute depends far more on which gate serves your unit than on raw mileage. Ask your sponsor which gate you will use before you tour a single house.

Layton

Housing costs meaningfully less than Layton, and the same Davis School District serves both. Clearfield carries more commercial traffic and older housing stock. Sunset is quieter and smaller. Many junior enlisted families start here, and plenty never leave.

Syracuse

Newer construction dominates Syracuse, which appeals to families who want a house built this decade. The city sits west toward the Great Salt Lake, so sunsets are spectacular and the Antelope Island causeway is minutes away. Plan on 15 to 20 minutes to the West Gate. One caution: the lake-adjacent stretches can catch odor and brine flies during low-water summers.

Roy and Riverdale

Roy wraps the north end of base and uses the Roy Gate at I-15 Exit 338. Drive times run 5 to 10 minutes for most of the city. Weber School District serves Roy rather than Davis, which trips up families who assumed one district covers everything. Riverdale sits just north and carries the region’s biggest retail cluster. South Ogden and Ogden

On-Base Housing at Hill AFB

Boyer Hill Military Housing

Family housing at Hill is privatized. Boyer Hill Military Housing owns, builds, and maintains the community. Homes run two to four bedrooms with fenced yards, and the neighborhoods include splash pads, tot lots, and walking trails. Rent equals your full with-dependents BAH.

Utilities work differently here than at many bases. Homes are individually metered, so you receive a utility allowance and pay gas and electric based on actual consumption. Conserve and you keep the difference. Overshoot in January and you write a check.

Temporary Lodging: Mountain View Inn

Mountain View Inn is the 24-hour arrival point for incoming families. Check in at Building 450, 7420 West Miller Street. Even if you arrive at two in the morning, staff will either place you or issue the paperwork you need for an off-base hotel.

Schools and Child Care Near Hill AFB

Which district serves your address

Three districts split the Hill AFB catchment, and mixing them up is the most common mistake newcomers make.

In-Processing and Gate Hours at Hill AFB

Your first stop on arrival

First-time arrivals should use the South Gate. From there, ask for directions to Building 450, the 24-hour lodging arrival point. All visitors without a DoD ID process through the South Gate Visitor Center in Building 542.

Commercial vehicles use the North Gate. Inspections run 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For deliveries outside those hours, contact the Base Defense Operations Center at 801-777-3058. Medical and Healthcare at Hill AFB

There is no emergency room on base

This is the single most important medical fact for a new Hill family. The 75th Medical Group provides neither urgent care nor emergency care. For a life-threatening situation, call 911 and go to a civilian hospital.

Two emergency departments serve the immediate area. Holy Cross Hospital – Davis, formerly Davis Hospital and Medical Center, sits at 1600 West Antelope Drive in Layton and runs 24 hours; its ER line is 801-807-7175. Salt Lake City International Airport is the arrival point for nearly everyone. Plan roughly 35 minutes north on I-15 to the South Gate, though rush hour stretches that considerably. There is no dedicated base shuttle from the airport, so arrange a rental car or rideshare in advance.

Interstate 15 is the spine of the whole region. Take Exit 334 for the South Gate, Exit 335 for the West Gate, and Exit 338 for the Roy Gate. Alternatively, from the east, U.S. Highway 89 connects to State Highway 193 and the South Gate.

Things to Do Near Hill AFB
