5 Things To Make Unpacking Easier

If you don’t know this unpacking might be a nightmare

Sometimes when you move you are focused on getting all your stuff packed and moving to your new location. But unfortunately packing up your house is only half of the process. Once you arrive at your new home and your boxes of stuff are delivered. Then the real work begins.

But there are some simple steps you can take when you move to make the unpacking process go more smoothly. And don’t worry the tips don’t stop with the packing list but continue with tips and hacks to help you unpack so you don’t get lost in a sea of packing material and boxes.

Create Open First Boxes

Pull together some of your kid’s favorite toys or special items to make the house feel like home. Mark it to Open First Kids. This can give your kids something to do while you are unpacking and it also can help your new house feel like a home.

Put supplies you will need in your new home: Toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates, cups, napkins. Coffee pot, coffee cups, silverware. Anything you think you will need the first few days that way you can be ready and know where that one thing you need is. Label Open First Supplies.

Take an extra box and put things the moving company won’t take: Candles, liquids, soaps, shampoo, etc. Put it in Liquids Box that you take with you in the car. Then you won’t have to throw those items away.

Put things in Ziploc Bags

To keep things together and/or clean you can put things in Ziploc bags before the movers arrive. This makes unpacking easier because you don’t have to wash everything before you put it away.

Use an organization system that works for you

The more organized you are the easier it will be for you to unpack everything. You can label things with a marker, use a color system. Whatever system works best for you, use it.

Purge as You Unpack

The best time to get rid of items is when you are unpacking. It isn’t an easy step to follow because at some point you just want everything to be where it belongs, but you won’t regret taking extra time to get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore.

Feel Free to Change Your Mind

Sometimes when you put something in a room or put pictures on a wall you don’t end up liking it. Move things around until you are satisfied. Once all the boxes are unpacked and everything is in its place it is hard to move things to new locations. So take your time figuring out where the best place for each item in your new home is.

Take Your Time

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your house will take time to come together. Some people go room by room. Others work for a certain period of time each day. Whatever process you use, be sure to set boundaries to take care of you. And know soon enough your house will be box free and start to feel like home.
